Organic Sustainability
Our commitment to sustainability requires us to be stewards of this planet and inspires us to act in ways that never compromise for future generations the free energy we have been so fortunate to inherit. We strive to instill this action-oriented belief system in all the many facets that comprise the Energy of OMfield. These are some of the main areas we are focused upon now with many more in the queue.
Organic Food Production — We begin with intention and a communion with seed, soil, air, water, and Sunlight as the integrated elements of our ability to flourish. The opportunity to grow food is sacred to us. We seek to recognize and honor the symbiotic relationship that exists between humans and the environment as co-creators of our dynamic, supportive landscape. The more food we are able to grow ourselves, the more we empower ourselves and our community to become healthier, less dependent, more conscious beings while reducing our carbon footprint in a myriad of ways.
Solar Powered Off-the-Grid Generation — Most humans have no idea where their electricity comes from or what is the mode of generation. This creates a perilous disconnect of information and allows people to maintain a lifestyle of ignorance and unconsciousness. Solar energy via photovoltaic panel produces clean energy stored in batteries on-site which eliminates any potential contribution to the conventional means of unsustainable electricity from the grid. This immediately enhances our relationship to energy itself and enables us to consciously monitor our use of this precious resource, further strengthening our awareness and connection to our environment.
Solar Hot Water Heater — This technology also harnesses the awesome power of the Sun, but in a very different way. In this case, the Sun directly heats the hot water tank, which alleviates the load of additional electricity being consumed from the batteries and used for showering or doing dishes etc. Like photovoltaic panels, this is a super-clean, extremely efficient form of partnering with the environment directly.
Water Harvesting — Water harvesting captures rain or snow fall and intends to creatively use it as closely to where it falls as possible. This too is another example of “bio-mimicry” — using the model that Nature provides us and implementing her masterful technique of naturally infiltrating precipitation into the soil so that it can be cycled through an array of life forms including humans. Following this approach immediately increases the level of efficiency and sustainability to near 100% and endows us with yet another opportunity for direct communion with the Earth and its atmosphere.
Waste — Most native and indigenous cultures do not even have a word in their language for waste. Unfortunately for the Earth and its inhabitants, waste has become inexorably bound, a key ingredient if you will, to both the definition and growth of the global economy. Adopting a cradle-to-cradle waste management practice essentially aims to create a circular flow of this energy so that the term “waste” becomes unrealized once again. Cradle-to-cradle implies the circumvention of the grave of an artifact — ending its typical linear path and instead creating a circular path. This mirrors all of Nature’s processes (bio-mimicry) along with the age-old saying- — “Nothing ever goes away, it just changes form”.
Unity — There is no single element, no greater perception, no practice or behavior that is more profound or important than our coming to integrated terms at the experiential level with the inherent web of connected relationships that support all of life here on planet Earth. The fragmented mind that conceives of itself as separate from the objects it perceives is not at all sustainable. In the new paradigm that we are committed to demonstrating, competition gives way to cooperation, consumption to conservation, the destination to the journey, war to peace, taking to giving, fear to courage, artificial to natural and so on. This fundamental shift provides the framework upon which all other movements, actions, systems, and thoughts etc. are predicated upon here at OMfield.
